UNCW students have already left town for Christmas break, but the Seahawk men's basketball team will play in front of a packed house Wednesday evening with Wake Forest coming to town. Yes, Wake Forest of the ACC. Alley Hart will attend the basketball game Wednesday night at Trask Coliseum. He has lived in Wilmington for 45 years. In fact, Alley Hart was co-captain at Wake Forest the first time the Demon Deacons captured the ACC basketball championship in 1961. After winning the ACC title, Wake Forest got as far as the Elite Eight. Alley Hart was one of the starting guards. Billy Packer, who turned out to be a famous announcer, was the other guard. "Billy was good, I just wish he had passed the ball more," said Hart. There is no doubt Alley and Billy both liked to shoot. Nowadays, shooting is a bit more difficult for the longtime Wilmington resident. "In shooting a basketball you're supposed to shoot it up there. Now at my age when I go out and play I'm shooting from down here because it takes too much energy. I used to have a jump shot. Now I have a push shot." Alley and his wife Nancy will both attend the UNC Wilmington - Wake Forest game Wednesday evening. Who are the Hart’s going to cheer for? "It's a tossup. We love UNCW, but love Wake Forest too," said the Hart’s. “When UNCW does something good we'll yell. When Wake does something we'll yell for them too."
