Fossil fuels in general are formed over millions of years so they have high carbon levels. When they burn they produce high levels of carbon monoxide.
Wood smoke does not have a high level of CO and what there is is very diluted and goes up the chimney. All newer wood stoves have very low emissions including CO.
We breath out CO. Make sure your chimney is working properly.
