The building forced to close its door in Downtown Wilmington has been condemned. The building that houses Daughtry's Old Books and Doublewide Skate and Surf Shop has failed to meeting county codes. In an effort to ensure the public's safety, the building was evacuated yesterday.
According to New Hanover County's chief building inspector, the facade has pulled away from the front wall and the southside sidewalk is caving in. When a building is condemned, it must be repaired or demolished. Those who enter, enter at their own risk.
No word on how or when the problems will be fixed.
