Wilmington firefighters star in Animal Planet show

Station 7 of the Wilmington Fire Department was transformed into a small TV studio Sunday. Lights and cameras from the cable network Animal Planet visited the firehouse to tell the story of firefighters who saved a cat.

All city firetrucks are equipped with special oxygen masks in three sizes that can fit small cats through large dogs. These masks saved the life of Spice, a cat who was caught in a fire. That's why the network chose Wilmington to tell this unique story.

"The bond that people share with their animals is intense," said Ann MacMullan, the senior producer for Powderhouse Productions, which shot the segment. "It's like nothing else. To see a happy ending with a pet reunited with an owner thanks to the heroes of Station 7 is really a unique story. That's why we're here."

The network still has yet to name the new series, which will focus on cats from across the country. As of right now, there is no date for when the piece will air.
