Dredging starts along Cape Fear Coast

$22 million is being spent to pump sand onto local beaches. A dredge is taking sand from the waterway between Wrightsville Beach and Masonboro Island. It will help renourish the shoreline of Masonboro and the center portion of Wrightsville Beach.

Carolina, Kure and Ocean Isle Beaches are also getting a facelift. The Army Corps of Engineers project should be finished by the end of April.

Federal dollars are covering more than half of the cost. State and local funding is paying for the rest
