Accident victim's dogs located after WWAY story

What was lost has now been found.

During WWAY NewsChannel 3 at 5 p.m. Thursday, we ran a story about Tonya Maddox. She fell asleep while driving on Carolina Beach Road early Wednesday morning. Her car flipped and hit a utility poll. As emergency crews rushed her off to the hospital, she asked them to take care of her two dogs. She gave emergency workers the number for a relative that would come pick up the dogs, but when the relative got there, the dogs were gone.

Turns out the dogs wound up with a stranger at the scene who left his first name and phone number. When Maddox tried to call the man later, the number didn't work.

Well that stranger just happened to be watching our news and called Maddox to let her know her dogs were safe with him. By 6 p.m. Thursday, Maddox was back together her beloved dogs Bear and Kyzer.
