DURHAM, N.C. -- A judge has lowered the bond for a woman who once falsely accused three Duke University lacrosse players of rape and is now charged with attempted murder, arson and other crimes.
Multiple media outlets reported that a judge reduced bond Monday for Crystal Mangum to $250,000 from $1 million. The 31-year-old was arrested last week, and police say she was fighting with her boyfriend and set clothes on fire in a bathtub.
Mangum told police in 2006 that she was attacked during a Duke lacrosse team party where she was hired to perform as a stripper. State prosecutors later concluded that there was no credible evidence that an attack occurred and declared the players to be innocent.
