North Carolina beats Rice to stay alive

Story body

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- North Carolina still has its sights set on a college baseball national championship this year.

Dustin Ackley hit a three-run homer, and Robert Woodard and two relievers limited Rice to six singles and a double as the Tar Heels took a 6-1 victory at the College World Series.

The victory sets up a rematch of the two schools today. The loser goes home, while the winner moves on to the best-of-three championship series beginning Saturday.

Ackley broke out of a five-for-37 slump with a fifth-inning single for his school-record 113th hit of the season. In the seventh, Ackley lined a pitch from Chris Kelley over the right-field wall for his eighth homer and first since May eleventh.

Rob Wooten and Andrew Carignan finished for the Tar Heels, who handed the Owls their first loss in ten games.
