A local actress is about to see herself on the big screen. Carrie Malabre was cast as a supporting actress in the Nicholas Sparks movie "The Last Song" set to be released in theaters in a couple weeks. She spent most of last summer in Savannah, GA, mastering her role as "Cassie," an enemy of Miley Cyrus's character.
The UNCW theater major is featured in nine scenes. She says working on such a big production was much different than the independent films she's used to.
"As soon as they'd yell cut, there'd be someone with an umbrella and a tray of frozen grapes and water, I got so spoiled," Calabre said. "And then I worked on an independent film and I was like 'Where's my umbrella?'"
On-screen Malabre and Cyrus played enemies, but off-screen they got to be really close, even escaping and splashing the paparrazzi together on Miley's jet ski.
Malabre says Cyrus is really down-to-earth and would bring her guitar out with them in Savannah and play a few songs.
If she can get out of class, Malabre plans to go to the premiere of "The Last Song" in LA next week.
