Deputy cited for high-speed crash

The Brunswick County deputy who crashed her car while trying to pass another deputy was cited today.

Shallotte Police cited Samantha Lewis with careless and reckless driving. They say February 17 the off-duty deputy was driving 40 miles over the speed limit on Highway 17 when she lost control of her new Mustang, ran into a ditch and flipped her car more than 400 feet.

Lewis has been released from the hospital. She will have to appear in court.
