RALEIGH, N.C. -- North Carolina Sen. Kay Hagan and two of her Democratic colleagues are traveling to several countries including Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan to get a firsthand update about the political and military situation in the region.
A spokeswoman for Hagan's office said she began her trip Friday but couldn't give itinerary details except that she'll return before Easter. Hagan is traveling with Sen. Jack Reed of Rhode Island and Sen. Ted Kaufman of Delaware.
The three senators will meet with foreign leaders, U.S. military commanders and soldiers from their states currently serving overseas.
Hagan is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee making her first trip to Iraq. She's previously visited Afghanistan and Pakistan.
