WILMINGTON -- The Azalea Festival is one of Wilmington's biggest weekend, bringing hundreds of thousands of people and their wallets to town. Even though the exact amount of money generated is not known, early word from downtown businesses suggests it was a big success.
There were concerns prior to the festival that the front street improvement project might hurt profits, but shops and restaurants say business was good.
"It was absolutely incredible," Hunter Ford at Momentum Surf & Skate said. "Saturday was probably the best day we're ever going to have. It'll be pretty hard to top it."
Each year the festival is estimated to bring in roughly $5 million to the Port City through tourism dollars.
