Bullet hits man while he sleeps

READ MORE: Bullet hits man while he sleeps

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A Wilmington man is lucky to be alive today, after being hit in the head by a stray bullet early this morning, while he was sleeping in his bedroom.

The shooting happened in the 1200 block of South Sixth Street around 1:30 a.m. 34-year-old Monquire Amos was sleeping when he was shot in the head. According to Wilmington police, the bullet went through the house.

Neighbors say South 6th Street is an area that's seen a lot of alcohol abuse, drug abuse and violence despite the fact that many families and children live in the area.

"When you got adults that don't know how to act right and adults got bigger toys than kids got, then they can get hurt very badly with them." Sinclair Allen, who lives in the neighborhood said.

Police say Amos suffered minor injuries, but was not a target in the shooting. Two children were also in the home at the time, but are OK.
