WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The Rotary Club meets every Tuesday in Downtown Wilmington, but today was a special meeting for some members of the community. For the third year in a row the Rotary Club honored an organization for its Community Recognition Day. Chairman of the Day Bernie Malman said the purpose is to recognize those individuals and groups who have made living in Wilmington so worthwhile. This year volunteers from New Hanover Regional Medical Center took home the award. "I get to be here to represent 800 of them," NHRMC Volunteer & Auxilliary Services Director Eileen McConville said. "It's not about me. It's about what they do, the hours they give. Our volunteers gave more than 132,000 hours of service to New Hanover, their customers, their patients, their families. They touch every department of the hospital. So for us to be recognized by a group as prestigious as the Rotary is a real honor." Along with a plaque, the Rotary Club donated a check to the hospital's hospitality house.
