Want some extra money?
I thought that might get your attention. Millions of people give away hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars every year because they don't know a few simple facts. Here are some of my favorite easy tips:
Are you contributing to your company's 401(k)?
If you aren't and the plan matches some of your contributions, you could be missing out. For example, if your company matches $.50 for every dollar you contribute, you're missing out on a 50% increase in your contribution before the money even gets invested. Ask your plan administrator if your 401(k) includes a company match.
If any of your investments pay dividends, look into automatic dividend reinvestment. Instead of getting a check, the money you would have received is used to purchase more shares of the same investment. That way, you don't have to spend as much money out of your pocket to buy more of a good investment. Call your advisor about reinvesting dividends.
Finally, have you been thinking about fixing up the house? It may cost less than you think. Energy efficiency tax breaks may cover up to 30% of the cost of insulation, roofing, water heaters, and more. Check with your tax advisor for details.
I don't like seeing people miss out on easy ways to save money. Follow these steps and you could be on your way to a nicer home and higher contributions to your retirement plan.
