CFCC expects big numbers at college info session

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- Some high school seniors were thinking about higher education Wednesday night. At Cape Fear Community College's annual information night, more than 200 students picked up pamphlets about classes and financial aid. Tables were set up displaying the various departments and coursework available. The event took place at the college's north campus.

With the cost of education sky-rocketing, both parents and students say money will factor in to their decision.

"I think Cape Fear is a good option because it's cheap and it's close to home," Topsail High School Senior Kyle Proulx said. "I'm really interested in chemical engineering and machining."

"My daughter would be starting at a different college right now if the funds were there and this is affordable," Parent Anita Turel said. "I know the education is very good because I have a son that's gone back and forth to this college and it's an excellent education."

College officials were expecting a large turnout at Wednesday's event. Cape Fear Community College's enrollment is up forty percent over last year for both the summer and fall semesters.
