BEAUFORT, N.C. - A U.S. Coast Guard historian will provide visitors to the North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort with a glimpse of Wilmington during the Civil War.
Historian Bob Browning will discuss the blockade of Wilmington during a lecture Sunday.
Browning says Wilmington was the Confederacy's most important port by 1862. Although the Union tried to block the entrances to Cape Fear River, he says factors such as weather and geography made that difficult.
