Linda Lavin nominated for Tony Award

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Wilmington's own Linda Lavin is up for another Tony Award. The actress owns and operates the Red Barn Studio Theatre on 3rd Street with her husband.

Lavin earned the nomination for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play for her role as Ruth Steiner in Collected Stories, which is currently running on Broadway. She played the same role at Red Barn back in 2007.

This is Lavin's fifth Tony nomination. She won the Best Actress Tony in 1987 for her performance in Neil Simon's Broadway Bound.

Lavin is nominated along with Viola Davis (Fences), Valerie Harper (Looped), Laura Linney (Time Stands Still) and Jan Maxwell (The Royal Family).

The Tony Awards will be handed out June 13.
