VOTE 2010: Goolsby beats Lee in state Senate race

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Two Wilmington attorneys battled it out in the Republican primary to represent New Hanover County in the state senate. Thom Goolsby beat Michael Lee by a 20-percentage-point margin.

We caught up with Goolsby to ask him about winning a race that got more heated than most.

"I don't know why we couldn't talk about issues the whole time," Goolsby said. "I've spoken with my challenger on the Democrat side. I know he wants to talk about issues. That's what I talked about the whole campaign in the primary. That's what I'll be talking about all the way through the election. That's what people want to hear. They don't want all this negative stuff they want people, who are going to solve problems. That's what my party offers. We've had one party control since 1898, and we're working to change that."

Goolsby will face Democrat James Leutze in the general election in November.
