DURHAM, N.C. -- An employee at a Duke University medical clinic has been shot and killed and police in North Carolina are trying to determine if a man they wounded is a suspect.
Multiple media outlets reported the woman was shot and killed shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday at a Duke University Health System clinic. Her name has not been released.
Police say they were involved in a shootout with a man near the clinic about 40 minutes later. They were not sure if he is the person who shot the woman. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. His name has not been released.
Durham Police Chief Jose Lopez says the woman was the intended victim but officers are not sure if they are related.
The State Bureau of Investigation was assisting in the investigation.
