3 NC-based Marines killed in Afghanistan combat


CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. -- Military officials say three North Carolina-based Marines have been killed in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense announced on Monday that 22-year-old Lance Cpl. Christopher Rangel of San Antonio, Texas, died May 6. Authorities said 19-year-old Lance Cpl. Joshua M. Davis of Perry, Iowa, died the next day.

The military also reported that 21-year-old Cpl. Kurt S. Shea of Frederick, Md., died on Monday.

All three were killed in Helmand province. Officials provided no additional details on how the men died.

Rangel, Davis and Shea all were assigned to 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune.
