Breazeale continues to fuss about losing

READ MORE: Breazeale continues to fuss about losing

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- You would think two weeks after Election Day the mud-slinging would be over among the Republican candidates for Congress, but that's not the case.

Ilario Pantano beat Will Breazeale and Randy Crow for the Republican nomination for the District 7 US House seat. Even if you combined Breazeale's and Crow's votes, they would not have beaten Pantano. Yet the two want Pantano to step down as the nominee so the party can appoint a new candidate.

Breazeale teamed up with Crow in hopes of getting some questions answered. The two former Republican candidates say Pantano has secrets the public needs to know for the sake of the Republican Party. In a press conference this morning, the two asked Pantano to release information about his personal life, including military records, tax returns and information about his career and family.

"There are a lot of unanswered questions that I tried, that Mr. Crow tried, to get answered in this primary and he wouldn't do it," Breazeale said. "And it truly concerns me that people are falling for it."

Pantano said he has kept no secrets and released a number of documents, including his military records.

"Mr. Crow and Mr. Breazeale have worked hard to try and represent the people of the 7th District, but in the end I think their message wasn't embraced by voters," Pantano said. "Clearly, this race turned personal. We won the race two weeks ago, and we are still talking about it speaks to someone's ability to move on."

Pantano says he has no intentions of stepping down. He says he's never quit in a fight and never will.

Pantano will challenge incumbent Democrat Mike McIntyre in November.
