WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Five people are behind bars and an assortment of drugs are off the street. Police say they could not have done it without help from the community. It started off as just a complaint, but that complaint led police to crack, heroin and prescription pills.

Tuesday night police searched two apartments on Darlington Avenue and Metting Road in Wilmington. They found more than 100 bags of heroin, three grams of crack cocaine, a small amount of pills and more than $1,700. As a result of the bust five people are charged with numerous drug-related offenses.

Police say a lot of times a bust like this one comes from complaints or tips from the community.

"We rely solely, mainly, on cooperation from our citizens, and that means good people and bad people that call in stuff," Wilmington Police Capt. Randy Pait said. "A lot of people will call because they're mad at somebody, and a lot of people will call because they want change in the community."

Police say a majority of their tips are anonymous. They ask anyone who has suspicions or concerns about activity in their neighborhood to call CrimeStoppers or the police department directly.
