Statues of gods placed in new Hindu temple in NC

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Members of the Hindu faith in Fayetteville have finished a 10-year project with the placement of the statues of Hindu gods in a new temple.

The Fayetteville Observer reported the statues were placed in Hindu Bhavan on Sunday. The $2 million temple is the second Hindu place of worship in Fayetteville.

The first opened in the 1990s and is for a denomination based in northern India. The president of Hindu Bhavan's executive committee says the temple is a place of worship for all Hindu denominations.

The building opened about six weeks ago, but the placement of the idols was delayed until this weekend because May 23 was an "auspicious day" under the Hindu faith's lunar calendar.
