80 minutes of regulation play was not enough. Two ten minutes periods didn't decide an outcome either. Sudden death became sudden victory for Hoggard as the Vikings pull off a season saving goal off a corner kick from Madyson Marshburn. Sarah Clinard scored the lone goal. That lone goal sends Hoggard to the 4-A state championship game this weekend vs. the winner of East Forsyth and North Mecklenburg.
In the baseball state playoff Laney shutout Rose 2-0 in Greenville Tuesday night. Mike Hilla got the win on the mound. Ryan LaGrange got the save. Laney will host the 4-A East Finals on Friday vs. the winner of Apex & Lee County.
Elsewhere Tuesday Harnett Central ended Laney's softball season 3-0 in high school softball. East Columbus lost in the 1_A baseball playoffs 3-0 to Rosewood, but Dixon advances in the 1-A baseball playoffs with a 6-5 win over Gates.
