Art museum in NC that had big plans now closing

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Fayetteville Museum of Art's ambitious plans to build a nine-story, $15 million home designed by a world-renowned architect have fallen apart in three years.

The Fayetteville Observer reports the museum's last day will be Monday. It is closing its doors because of money problems.

The reasons for the change in its fate include the museum's bookkeeping and funding cuts. The museum's board of trustees voted earlier this month to shut down rather than accumulate more debt.

Museum executive director Tom Grubb says the closing is a sign that the arts aren't healthy in Fayetteville.

Summer art classes that were nearly full also have been canceled, along with children's programs.
