OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) -- It was not an easy day for anyone who was outside. Even with a heat advisory in effect for most of the day some people with hot jobs had no choice. Keith Stocum, a mechanic at Boys Under the Hood in Oak Island, says the heat is part of the job. Stocum says he's luckier than most people who have hot jobs, because the shop sits near the beach, which allows the sea breeze to come in. He says while the heat may bother some people, it's something he's just gotten use to. "You get use to it. You just get acclimated. It takes a while for people, but it's ok. We're used to it here," Stocum said. "Drink a lot of liquids. Water is really good. Stay in the air-conditioning. If your air conditioner doesn't work, come and see me." Ironically the majority of Stocum's work right know is fixing people's air conditioning. He says he's glad he can help people stay cool even though he can't while at work.
