"The park is used by beach-goers who do not want to pay for parking" HA!!! That is such BS. I would gladly pay for parking if I could find a spot. If I am not there by 9-9:30 am on a Sat. or Sun. then my day at the beach consists of driving around the island for an hour or so before I finally give up and go home. And the Holidays, forget it. Maybe they could consider an underground parking garage like the one that was constructed at my old college where they didn't want an eye sore in the historic district, although I don't know if that is structurally feasible if it is below sea level so close to the water.
