Women bare almost all for breast cancer fight

READ MORE: Women bare almost all for breast cancer fight

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Many people have heard of "The Ya-Ya Sisterhood," but have you heard of the Ta Ta sisterhood? It's how two woman brought together by a devastating discovery are trying to help other women battling breast cancer.

"Everyone in this type of position really appreciates the days and what is going on in their life more," said breast cancer patient Gail Calloway. Calloway met Lauren Levian shortly after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

"We were kidding around, and I said, 'You know what we should do? We should do a calendar like 'Calendar Girls,'" Levian said, "and it was like hahaha, but the more we thought about it we thought, 'Yeah. Let's do it.'"

What makes this calendar different from other ones? The calendar features 11 photos of women who are survivors or patients of breast cancer, and each woman is partially nude. Levian and Calloway both modeled for the calendar.

"It was so fun to be outside in the heat, and all you have is like a little drape," Levian said. "And there you are... free, but it's all tasteful."

The purpose of the calendar is to show women with cancer are just as beautiful on the inside as they are on the outside. The proceeds from the sale of the calendar will go to women in different stages of breast cancer around the Cape Fear area.

"We're aiming for people who have fallen through the cracks of the traditional help, and there are a lot of them," Galloway said. "They don't have money for mammograms. They don't have money for their treatments."

It's not too late if you still want to participate. One more photo will be taken for the calendar. The Ta Ta Sisterhood of the Cape Fear will meet this Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the Greenfield Lake Fragrance Garden. Anyone who has been affected by breast cancer is welcome to attend.
