Fire destroys Bald Head Island home

READ MORE: Fire destroys BHI home

BALD HEAD ISLAND, NC (WWAY) -- Fire investigators on Bald Head Island spent the day trying to figure out what caused last night's blaze that destroyed a home on Thistle Ridge. Crews were dispatched a little after 8:30 p.m., and it took about an hour to get the fire out.

A young woman and her dog, who were in the home at the time, got out OK. Today the home is nothing more than a pile of ash.

"Now that it's daylight, we're going to try to do some investigation," BHI Public Safety Chip Munna said. "Not much to investigate unfortunately. We've already interviewed the homeowners. We've interviewed the couple people that were staying here over the the past week to figure out what was going on to see if there was any problems in the house, and at this point it doesn't seem like there's anything red flagging that caused it."

Because the blaze was so destructive, Munna says it's possible investigators may never know the cause. He also says the home did not have a sprinkler system.
