Family emergency closes local clinic but rumors point to financial trouble

READ MORE:
A local health clinic is closed. Owners say it's temporary, but reports of ongoing financial problems have patients concerned. Owners of the Atlantic Health Clinic in Wilmington say a family emergency prompted the abrupt closing. Amidst rumors of troubled finances, NewsChannel 3 has obtained IRS documents that may show otherwise. "It was like a total shock to us we had no clue that they were closing or anything," Sharon Mintz, who's mother is a patient there, said. Mintz says her mother's last appointment was just last week. No one notified Mintz that the clinic would be closed and that she wouldn't be able to get her mother's medical records in an emergency. Mintz also said she couldn't get in touch with her doctor. Mintz couldn't get in touch with anyone that could give her any information about why the clinic was closed, or how long it would stay that way. "I came up here after my mom had called to let me know that they had closed," Mintz said, "I was going to try to see if there was any information on the door cause I had called the number and it wasn't telling me anything." The Creasy family owns the Atlantic Health Clinic. Since posting a note on the door Monday morning, they've updated the clinic's voicemail message to say the clinic is closed because of a family emergency. But court records may tell another story. According to documents NewsChannel 3 uncovered at the New Hanover County Courthouse, the clinic has federal tax liens filed against them by the IRS. According to the documents, the clinic is behind more than 200 thousand dollars. The Creasys declined an on-camera interview, but they say the clinic will re-open.
