WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- NFL training camps are getting underway this week. The Carolina Panthers report tomorrow. One local kicker is headed to Florida for his third NFL season. Connor Barth and the rest of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will report to camp Friday.
The Hoggard High and UNC alum broke in with the Chiefs in 2008. After signing with the Dolphins last summer, Barth was released before being picked up by the Bucs. Now in 2010, Barth enters the season knowing he is the man for the job.
"You've seen what you've had to go through the last two years to put you in the position where you're at now. I'm in a lot better position than I was the last couple years. I'm excited about that, and I'm really excited about helping this team win some games this year," Barth said.
Barth nailed three field goals of at least 50 yards in week ten last year. That made him one of just four NFL kickers to pull off the feat. He also nailed a game winner against the would-be Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints.
Coming up on WWAY NewsChannel 3 at 6 p.m., we'll hear more from Barth about his journey from playing under the Friday night lights in Wilmington to the Sunday spotlight of the NFL.
