CHRISTIANSBURG, VA – In a game of the final two remaining unbeatens, Brunswick County, North Carolina pounded out 12 hits and 15 runs to defeat the Halifax County, Virginia All-Stars 15-5 in the 2010 Dixie Boys World Series at Harkrader Sports Complex in Christiansburg, Virginia.
Five different North Carolina players had multiple hits as the Brunswick team scored 14 runs in the first four innings before ending it in the sixth with a single run. Michael Moss had two doubles and three RBIs, while Jared Strange and Erick Hill had three knocks. Dustin Darguzas and Tyler Barnes added 2 RBIs on a pair of hits.
Virginia got solo home runs from Justin Womack in the second and Michael Watts in the fourth to highlight their offense.
Carson Tew was credited with the win pitching three innings of relief, while Ryan Powell took the loss.
North Carolina will face Monroe, Louisiana in one semifinal on Tuesday, while Virginia will face Laurel-Jones County, Mississippi in the other.
