Griffith unexpectedly went on medical leave on July 12. The Pender County Board of Health has scheduled an emergency meeting Wednesday Aug. 4 at 7 p.m. to discuss the hiring of an interim director.

“They were planning on hiring an interim health director, but my physician said I’m well enough to come back, I can’t stay on medical leave. I have an obligation to go back to work. “If the Board of Health decides they don’t want me back, they have one option. They can discharge me,” Griffith said. “Other than that, I intend to be at work in the morning at 8 a.m.”
