Donated dolls to help sick kids

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The Optimist of the Port City Club donated 100 handmade dolls to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Doctors and nurses at the Betty H. Cameron Women's & Children's Hospital will use the dolls to support play therapy. It's also a way to show sick children procedures they'll be going through. The dolls help the kids express their feelings.

"We would just like to donate at least 100 baby dolls today and more to come," Optimist member Lori Harris said. "And we look forward to seeing these being utilized with the children for wellness and for therapy demonstrations."

Children will be able to draw on the dolls, apply bandages and take the dolls home with them. All of the materials for the project were donated by members of the Optimist Club.
