Local doctor arrested for fleeing state

READ MORE: Local doctor arrested for fleeing state
WILMINGTON -- There is new information about a local doctor who's in trouble with the law. Dr. Wesley Johnson of the Atlantic Health Clinic in Wilmington has been arrested for fleeing another state as a fugitive. We've since learned he's wanted for failure to pay child support in Horry County, South Carolina. It appears from court records that Dr. Johnson is behind thousands of dollars in payments. Atlantic Health Clinic mysteriously shut down last week with clinic operators citing a family illness as their reason for closing. About four weeks ago another Atlantic Health Care Clinic closed abruptly, this one for good. Some of the former patients of Delco Health Clinic say they're having trouble getting a hold of their medical records. Former patient Wayne Raynor said, "They closed the clinic down overnight. I went for a routine follow-up and the clinic was closed, no notice, no notes on the doors." Raynor says he was a patient at Atlantic's Health Clinic in Delco for at least ten years. He quickly had to find a new doctor. That doctor suggested he get a colonoscopy, something Raynor says his doctor at Atlantic never mentioned. "I had never been requested to have one done and I'm 56 years old," Raynor said. "We went for a routine colonoscopy and the reports showed I had colon cancer, which just devastated me and my wife." Now not only is he dealing with cancer that may have been caught earlier he's also trying to get a hold of his medical records so his new doctor can properly treat him. "I contacted them personally to ask if I could go by and personally pick up my medical records for my new doctor and they informed me at that time that I could not go get my own medical records," Raynor said. Raynor says his new doctor has also tried to get a hold of the records with no luck. "It looks like we're probably going to have to get in touch with the medical board to get those records to him." And each time he calls Atlantic Health Care he gets an answering machine. The State Medical Board says it has received calls from patients of Atlantic Health Clinic but could not tell us how many patients are having trouble getting a hold of their records. If you are a patient with Atlantic and need your medical records you can call the State Medical Board at 1-800-253-9653.
