FROM A NEWS RELEASE SENT TO THE WWAY NEWSCHANNEL 3 NEWSROOM FROM THE WILMINGTON POLICE DEPARTMENT... Case#: 2010- 032326 Time: 6:41 a.m. – Tuesday morning Location: 1506 East Plaza Offense: Attempted murder, B & E / felony / force, Violating domestic violence protective order (2 counts). Summary: WPD officers responded to assist EMS on a call in which the male victim appeared to have been stabbed in the head. The female resident of the apartment told investigating officers that her male visitor, age 37, went to answer a knock at the door. The suspect, Curtis Leon Rivers. d.o.b. 4-1-1966 of Wilmington, forced his way into the residence and the two men struggled. The suspect left, and male victim was left bleeding. He was transported by EMS to NHRMC where he remains in serious condition as of today (Wednesday). Investigators identified Rivers as the suspect. He was apprehended on Tuesday night in the Houston Moore neighborhood by WPD officers and the U. S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force. He currently is in custody at the New Hanover County detention facility under $1,000,000 bond. In addition to Attempted murder and B & E / felony force, Rivers also has been charged with two counts of violating a domestic violence protective order. The victim of the DV charges is the female resident of the apartment where the stabbing occurred. A booking photo of Rivers is attached. * * * * * * * * OTHER ACTIVITY Case#: 2010-032361 Time: 8:41 a.m. - Tuesday morning Location: 2902 Carolina Beach Rd - Scotchman Offense: Common Law Robbery / Malicious conduct by prisoner / Hinder & Delay Summary: WPD officers responded to a report of a woman yelling and refusing to the leave the store. A second caller reported that the woman was trying to get behind the counter to steal items. Responding officers spotted a woman matching the suspect’s description walking north on Carolina Beach Road. When the officers approached her, the woman refused to answer questions, however the officers spotted a bulge in her pocket that proved to be the Marlboro 100 cigarettes stolen from the store. When a female WPD supervisor responded to the scene to search the suspect, the woman became upset, and turned around and spat in the supervisor’s face. She was transported to the NHC detention facility where she charged as noted above and placed under $5,000 bond. The prisoner was identified as Yolanda Johnson Wade, d.o.b. 5-28-1955, of Wilmington. Case#: 2010-032529 Time: 12:01 a.m. – Wednesday morning Location: 4617 Cedar Avenue Offense: (see below) Summary: WPD officers responded to a dispute between neighbors. According to the two victims, they were driving home down Cedar Avenue when a neighbor (later identified as James David Altizer, d.o.b.12-12-1985), pointed a pistol grip shotgun at them as they drove by. One of the victims reported that her husband tried to confront Altizer about the incident, but he retreated inside his home. When responding WPD officers established a perimeter around Altizer’s home, he surrendered and was taken into custody without incident. The suspect subsequently gave officers consent to search his residence. They recovered a pistol grip shotgun (later found to be stolen), as well as other guns and knives, a small marijuana “grow” operation and drug paraphernalia. Altizer was charged as noted below and placed under a $70,000 secured bond. His charges are: Assault by pointing a gun, possession of a stolen firearm, maintaining a dwelling for drugs and various drug charges (possession – Schedule I, possession – paraphernalia, possession – marijuana, manufacturing a controlled substance – Schedule VI).
