A woman, accused of adultury and living in Iran has been sentenced to death by sharia--the sacred law of Islam. She will be stoned to death, a barbaric custom--among many others--of theocratic Islamic countries.

In the Gospel of John, a passage describes a confrontation between Jesus and the scribes and Pharisees over whether a woman, caught in an act of adultery, ought to be stoned. Jesus shames the crowd into dispersing, and averts the execution.
