Simply put, there are people who have taken verses out of context, and used them to further thier own hatred, as has been done with most religions.
You must read the Koran before you can offer an informed opinion on Islam.
If your mantra is "All I need to know about Islam, I learned on 9/11," then you have been blinded by hatred. To say that there is no difference between Muslims is to say that there is no difference between Catholics, Episcopalians, Pentacostals, Baptists, etc.
