WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- New Hanover County is getting some more law enforcement officers thanks to a federal grant. The Sheriff's Office is getting more than $1.3 million through the US Department of Justice's Community Oriented Policing Services, or COPS, program. The grant provides 100 percent of of approved salary and benefits for entry level officers for three years. The DOJ says the money will pay for eight new deputies.
