PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- The Northeast Cape Fear River continues to go down, but it's still causing problems.
The river now measures at 13.9 feet near Highway 53. That's about a foot and a half lower than when it crested Sunday morning. Compare that to last month, when the river averaged about two to three feet.
Parts of Highway 53, Shaw highway, Crooms Bridge Road and Whitestocking Road are still closed. Emergency services says part of the reason the river is taking so long to go down is because of a lunar high tide.
