AMBER ALERT: Search on for disabled NC girl; parents questioned

Associated Press Writer

HICKORY, NC (AP) -- Police in North Carolina say they want to know more about what a hearing-impaired girl's life was like before she disappeared over the weekend.

Hickory Police Chief Tom Adkins said Monday teams are still searching for 10-year-old Zahra Clare Baker in western North Carolina. He says they are interviewing her former teachers and following up on other leads, though he isn't being specific.

Zahra's father told ABC's "Good Morning America" that it is possible his wife is involved in the disappearance. Elisa Baker has been arrested and charged with about a dozen crimes unrelated to the disappearance.

Adam Baker said his wife told him that she last saw Zahra sleeping in her bed about 2:30 a.m. Saturday. A fire was reported in the Bakers' backyard about 5 a.m.
