WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The doors to Trask Coliseum were opened to the media this afternoon. Never before has their been more anticipation for women's basketball at UNCW.
Hall of Famer Cynthia Cooper-Dyke introduced her team to the media today. Missing were guard Julia Finlay and assistant coach Johnetta Hayes. Finlay was the player who vomited several times after being forced to log roll up and down the court. Hayes was the supervising coach at the time.
With the resignation of athletics director Kelly Mehrtens, it has been a tumultuous off season. Cooper-Dyke says she is ready to get the season underway.
"Once you get on the basketball court, a lot things kind of go away," Cooper-Dyke said. "You leave your problems off the court, whether they be in the classroom, personal or whatever, and then you get on the court and try to focus on what we're trying to do here."
Cooper-Dyke took over for Ann Hancock, who's contract was not renewed. The Seahawks take to the court on November 10 for an exhibition against UNC Pembroke.
