PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- Pender County flood victims are ripping out their carpets and tearing down their walls. Meanwhile, teams from FEMA and the state are driving around the county to assess their damaged homes.

The assessment teams have not released any figures on the damage. Their work may continue tomorrow if they do not make it to Topsail Beach today.

Most of the damage is to homes along the Northeast Cape Fear River near Highway 53. Two weeks ago, parts of the county saw more than 20 inches of rain.
