NAVASSA, NC (WWAY) -- We have an update to a story you'll only see on three. The State Bureau of Investigation is launching an investigation into the mayor of Navassa. The SBI is investigating allegations of forgery involving an easement for water and sewer lines.
The request to investigate came from the Navassa Police Chief and District Attorney Rex Gore. Eulis Willis was recently relieved of many of his duties as Navassa mayor by the town council, after some property owners said their signatures were forged on a deed. Willis is still technically "the mayor," but is no longer allowed to sign any official documents, and is basically restricted to ceremonial ribbon cuttings and appearances until this matter is resolved.
