WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The Fire Prevention Expo was in full swing this weekend Independence Mall in Wilmington.

Activities at the free event included: fire safety games, home escape planning and performances by the Carolina Fire Crew and Wilmington fire safety clowns. Of course, you could also see fire trucks ... and demonstrations of equipment.

Folks even had the chance to race firefighters in putting on firefighting gear.

"We have a lot of kids out here learning about fire safety and got some hands-on stuff and they really are learning very well," said Matt Davis of the New Hanover County Fire Department.

The kids really seemed to enjoy the big fire trucks and learning about smoke detectors.
