Azalea Garden Tour grants to help beautify county

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The Cape Fear Garden Club did its part today in beautifying the community.

The Garden Club handed out $62,000 in grants this morning. The club raised the money by running the Azalea Garden Tour during the Azalea Festival.

The money is going to 19 different recipients to help beautify New Hanover County.

"The thing that's going to receive a lot of attention this year is over at Greenfield Lake around the amphitheatre, the rotary wheel is being refurbished and planted with hundreds of azaleas being donated by Encore Azaleas, and we are going to bring that back up to par, so that it's a beautiful as it used to be," said the Cape Fear Garden Club's Brenda Moore.

All the grant recipients were non-profit organizations, like the Cameron Art Museum, Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Wilmington Health Access for Teens.
