WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- New Hanover County Commissioners will welcome two Republicans to the table. The voters chose Republicans Brian Berger and Rick Catlin.

Berger and Catlin defeated Democratic candidates Deborah Butler and former Sheriff Sid Causey. Berger and Catlin said yesterday's win means the people are ready for change.

"We simply cannot continue on the course we are on here in New Hanover County, in North Carolina or in the United States," Berger said. "It's not sustainable the direction we're heading in, and I'm certainly going to do everything I can on the local level to change that direction."

Berger said one of his top priorities is changing the budget process.

Rick Catlin (R) 37,095 31.72%
Brian Berger (R) 31,403 26.85%
Deborah Butler (D) 24,292 20.77%
Sid Causey (D) 24,155 20.66%
