McIntyre ready to work with Republican House

READ MORE: McIntyre ready to work with Republican House

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- It's been a little more than a week since elections wrapped-up. Now many politicians are settling in and getting ready to go back to work.

WWAY caught up with District 7 Congressman Mike McIntyre to see what the democrat thinks about his minority position in the house, now that the Republicans have control. One issue that is already being discussed is redistricting which could affect McIntyre in his next run for re-election.

"It's premature to say what is going to happen," said congressman Mike McIntyre. "We went through redistricting 10 years ago and we worked with people then and we'll continue to work with folks now to make sure we do what is in the best interest of North Carolina."

During our interview McIntyre clearly acknowledged the Republicans' control. He said as a blue dog democrat he feels like he'll be a great asset for the House of Representatives.

"It's actually a good advantage because when I first went to Washington a few years ago the number of the blue dogs will be similar to what it will be now," said McIntyre. "We found that both parties would look to us to try and bring that balance. I've always been one to reach across the aisle to Democrats, Republicans and Independents."

McIntyre will return to Washington next week. He admits he's still catching up on his rest after several long months of campaigning.
