WILMINGTON -- To ramp up for hurricane season the American Red Cross is asking for help. The Cape Fear chapter of the American Red Cross would like to increase from 250 active volunteers to 1,000. They want to be ready to respond during hurricane season with plenty of trained disaster relief volunteers. The organization is also asking for blood donations and financial contributions. If the Red Cross doesn't receive the help it needs, the services offered will suffer. Cape Fear American Red Cross Director Vicki Labelle said, "That would inhibit our ability to respond to disasters to assist military victims and their families, to teach all the health and safety courses that we teach in the community and to insure a safe and adequate blood supply." To volunteer call (910) 762-2683 or visit www.arccapefear.org
